During Black Friday, mountain bike jackets are gathered here, with a large selection on sale: waterproof jackets for rain and mud, softshells and windbreakers for the mid-season, insulated jackets and down coats for the cold, available in men's and women's sizes. Vélo-Store offers these discounts on jackets throughout November. Start with the weather for your rides, then compare the crossed-out prices for the same style and size.
This page mainly features waterproof jackets and lighter ones, including windbreakers or softshells, along with sleeveless jackets, down jackets, and a few fleeces. The right choice depends on the outings you want to cover:
Membranes, water columns, and layered constructions are explained on the MTB jackets page, available all year round.
Before judging a discount, check the exact version. The Weathershield by Dirtlej comes as a simple waterproof jacket, in thermal version and in Warm version. The Cascade by Giro is available in Insulated version and as a women's insulating jacket. At POC, the Thermal is offered with or without a hood, and Kenny adds to its Core the mention of waterproof softshell. The crossed-out price of a simple Weathershield does not indicate the Warm version: for the same version, measure the difference between the crossed-out price and the displayed price in your size.
A jacket is chosen based on what you wear underneath in winter, long-sleeved jersey or warm base layer, and sometimes a back protector. With arms stretched towards the handlebars, the sleeves should cover the wrists and the back should remain covered. The women's cuts, which are numerous here, are narrower at the shoulders; refer to all cases to the brand's guide.
A warm jacket goes with protected hands: the MTB gloves from Black Friday include lined models. Under the jacket, a long-sleeved MTB jersey; for the legs, MTB shorts and trousers. On the road, check the road cycling jackets of the operation. For the rest of the year, check the clearance and new arrivals. The page also features a Evoc protection vest and a knitted set from CMP: their designation indicates them.
Gonso, a brand of the Maier Sports group, equips several jackets and down jackets with Primaloft, a synthetic insulation, and also offers softshells.
Endurance, from Denmark, has waterproof jackets like Seren, Titan and Varberg, the Nimbos also sleeveless and the foldable Immie for women.
AGU, which became known in the Netherlands with a rain suit before dressing professional cyclists, offers here the Rain II Essential and the winter jacket Performance II.
POC combines the waterproof Motion, the insulated Thermal and the Signal All-weather.
Endura, a Scottish brand based in Livingston, started with its MTB range MT500, which includes the waterproof hooded jacket featured on this page.
The Black Friday is set on the Friday following Thanksgiving, the American holiday. At Vélo-Store, Black Friday promotions on MTB jackets are not limited to that date: they cover all of November, leading up to winter.
The waterproof jacket is essential in the rain and mud. The softshell, more breathable and stretchy, is reserved for cold but dry outings, or for a passing shower. Many mountain bikers have both and choose depending on the weather.
It is not mandatory, but a hood large enough to go over the helmet protects the neck during a shower or a break. Some fold into the collar; other jackets do not have one, to remain light.
Wash it according to the label, without fabric softener, which is harmful to the membrane. As soon as water absorbs into the fabric instead of beading up, revive the water-repellent treatment with a suitable product.
Ensure that the version is the same, insulated or not, with or without a hood, men's or women's cut, then compare the final price in your size.
