A road bike pump bought during Black Friday must first reach the pressure of your tyres and accept the Presta valve. During the event, discounts apply to foot pumps with gauges for the workshop, mini pumps, and CO2 inflators for outings, as well as a few electric compressors. Choose based on your needs, home or road, and then compare versions from the same family.
At home, a foot pump with a pressure gauge allows you to adjust the pressure before each outing. On the bike, a mini pump attached to the frame or a CO2 inflator in your pocket helps out after a puncture; CO2 is the most quick, while the mini pump doesn’t rely on any cartridges. Electric compressors, like the Topeak E-Booster Digital, inflate to the chosen pressure and then stop automatically. Despite the name of the page, repair accessories are rare: patches and tyre levers can be found all year among road repair accessories.
Manufacturers offer a model in several versions with almost identical names. For Lezyne and crankbrothers, HP refers to a high-pressure version with a narrow body, HV refers to a high volume version for wider tyres; at Lezyne, a final G indicates a gauge, needle or digital depending on the reference. At Zefal, the Profil Max FP20, FP30, and FP60 foot pumps differ by their features. Also check what comes with it: CO2 cartridges, frame mounts, or adapters. An older generation pump and its replacement can coexist in the selection. A crossed-out price should only be read at the same version: between a HP with a gauge and an HV without a gauge, the difference lies in the equipment, not the promotion.
Outside of operations, the pumps and road repair accessories detail pump heads, valves, and preventative liquid all year round. During Black Friday, a puncture can be fixed with a spare inner tube, and worn road tyres can be replaced in the same motion. The rest of the selection is gathered in the road wheels and tyres of Black Friday; the new arrivals then showcase the latest pumps available.
Zefal produces most of its accessories in its factory in Jargeau, in the Loiret, where the brand has its headquarters.
Lezyne offers its Micro Floor Drive, a mini foot pump, in HP or HV versions, with or without a gauge.
Topeak has evolved its Joe Blow foot pump from Sport III to Race and Pro X, and complements its range of CO2 inflators with Ninja and AirBooster.
Pro, the accessory brand of Shimano, offers a Team Tubeless foot pump and a CO2 head with a regulator to dose the gas.
crankbrothers stores the hose of its mini Klic HP pump in the body of the pump, held in place by magnets; its screwed head only fits fully threaded Presta valves.
The foot pump: it's more quick and accurate thanks to its gauge, it is used for every outing. The mini pump or CO2 come next. There's no need to buy everything on the same day of Black Friday, right after Thanksgiving: discounts from Vélo-Store on pumps last throughout November, enough time to equip the workshop and then the bike.
A 16 g cartridge usually refills a road tyre. Bring two to cover a second puncture, and inflate with air upon your return, as CO2 escapes faster.
It inflates effortlessly and is easy to carry, but relies on its battery: the Topeak E-Booster Digital, for example, claims about four inflations of a 25 mm tyre per charge. With a TPU inner tube with a plastic valve, use the provided extension to avoid heating the valve.
Often, the nut on the Presta valve hasn’t been loosened, or the head is set for a Schrader valve. On a high rim, the valve may also be too short for the head to engage: an extension can solve the issue. A worn head seal can be replaced.
Yes: two tyre levers, a spare inner tube, and some patches, or plugs if you ride tubeless. A saddle bag is enough to store everything.
