A BMX stem in Black Friday is chosen based on three measurements: the diameter of the fork steerer, 1 inch on many mini and junior bikes or 1 inch 1/8, the handlebar clamp size, 22.2 or 31.8 mm, and the length. The discounts during this event apply to race, mini, and freestyle stems, as well as replacement screws: make sure to measure these dimensions before comparing two crossed-out prices.
The same name often covers multiple parts: the Box Two exists for a steerer of 1 inch, in 40 and 45 mm, and for a steerer of 1 inch 1/8, in 48, 53, and 60 mm; the Impact from Promax is sold in Mini and Pro. A discount therefore only applies to the displayed version: compare strikethrough price and displayed price for steerer, clamp, and length the same before looking at the colour. The stem bolts on the page, sold in packs of six, are used to replace damaged bolts: get the exact diameter and length of original.
Elevn, a brand fully focused on BMX racing, manufactures its CNC Pro stem from aluminium, with a one-piece top load cap held by four bolts, and also offers it in CNC Mini.
Insight separates its Mini/Junior and Pro stems according to the rider's category.
Box cold-forges and then machines the Box Two Top Load, designed for racing.
Colony, a freestyle brand based in Queensland, Australia, manufactures its Squareback from 7075 aluminium and secures it with a cap held by six bolts; its marked height raises the front of the bike.
Promax offers the Impact Mini, a top load stem for a steerer of 1 inch, and its Pro version for larger bikes.
All year round, the BMX stem page explains top load and front load setups and the torque tightening. During the event, a stem is chosen with the BMX handlebar it holds and the fork it clamps to; stems for MTB have their own page. End-of-line models then join the clearance.
Only if the fork has a steerer of 1 inch 1/8. Many mini and junior bikes have a steerer of 1 inch, which is thinner: the stem would not clamp. Check the diameter before choosing.
Yes. A 31.8 mm handlebar won’t fit in a 22.2 mm stem, and no shim allows you to clamp a handlebar larger than the stem. The switch to oversized must therefore be done with both parts.
The six-bolt cap, like on the Squareback from Colony, spreads the handlebar clamping over more points than the four-bolt cap of the CNC Pro from Elevn or the Impact from Promax. In both cases, tighten in a cross pattern, gradually, to the specified torque.
During Black Friday, which falls the day after Thanksgiving, and beyond: Vélo-Store extends its Black Friday discounts throughout November. This gives you time to measure the steerer of the fork with a caliper and check the handlebar clamp in place.
No, a stem comes with its bolts. Replacement bolts are needed when a head is damaged or a thread is stripped: replace them with bolts of the same size and strength class.
