Bike pedals on sale Black Friday are primarily chosen based on your shoes: flat sole, three-bolt cleats for road, and two-bolt cleats for mountain biking and gravel. The discounts apply to flat, automatic, and magnetic pedals, as well as the Favero Assioma power meter pedals; Vélo-Store is offering these throughout November.
City or mountain bike shoes with soft soles call for flat pedals with spikes for off-road use. A road shoe with three holes takes a Look Keo or Shimano SPD-SL cleat; a two-hole cleat requires an SPD or compatible one. Between the two, magnetic pedals hold a plate screwed under a shoe with two holes and release with a sideways motion. If your shoes are already equipped, stick with the same system: you'll avoid having to buy new cleats.
The Assioma from Favero measures power through the pedal axle, allowing it to be transferred from one bike to another with a simple key. The DUO and UNO take Look Keo cleats, the PRO RS take SPD-SL cleats, and the PRO MX takes SPD cleats for mountain biking and gravel. The single-pedal versions measure the left leg; a kit allows you to upgrade to dual measurement. Favero also sells some pedals separately, with the left pedal equipped or the right one unpowered: check if the offer is for a pair. For measurement in the crankset, see the power sensors on Black Friday.
A strikethrough price on pedals doesn’t tell you everything: compare it to the displayed price for the same model in the same version, and read the product sheet to know what the offer includes.
Out of operation, the page for bike pedals details each system, and the clearance sale features models at the end of their series.
Each discipline has its selection: road pedals on Black Friday for three-bolt cleats, MTB pedals for SPD and flat with spikes, BMX pedals, and city bike pedals. Replacement cleats have their own page, automatic cleats on Black Friday.
Favero, an electronics manufacturer based in Arcade, Italy, offers its Assioma PRO RS in a single equipped pedal version, RS-1, or dual, RS-2, with a kit to switch between the two.
Shimano gathers its three families on this page: SPD-SL like the RS500 for road, SPD like the PD-ME700 platform for MTB, and flat pedals GR400 and GR500.
Look combines the leaf spring of its Keo Blade with a power sensor on the Blade Power, in Single or Dual versions, and offers X-Track for SPD cleats.
Magped, an Austrian company from Aldrans, installs a neodymium magnet whose strength, 150 or 200 newtons, is chosen based on the cyclist's weight, on its Sport2, Enduro 2 or Road 2.
crankbrothers from Laguna Beach in California, allows the cleat to enter from four sides on its Egg Beater and Candy, and produces its flat pedals Stamp in two sizes depending on shoe size.
TIME separates its systems: ATAC for MTB, with cleats that release at 13 or 17 degrees, and Xpro for road, with ICLIC cleats, available in several axle lengths.
If the title doesn’t mention cleats, count them separately. Cleats wear out faster than pedals; consider getting a spare set if yours slip or disengage badly.
Remember a simple rule: the key always turns towards the back of the bike to loosen, as the left pedal has a left-hand thread. A 15 mm flat wrench or an Allen key in the axle will suffice depending on the model; grease the threads before reassembling.
Yes: Favero offers a switch kit that adds the equipped right pedal. You keep the left pedal and its settings.
The operation is named after the Friday following Thanksgiving; at Vélo-Store, its discounts on pedals, including Assioma, apply throughout November. Just check that the offer is for a pair and for the cleat system of your shoes.
The installation is the same, but the torque matters more: respect the torque specified by the manufacturer, then reset from your counter before the first ride and whenever the temperature changes significantly.
