During the Black Friday, this page showcases numerous chainrings for electric bikes, either directly mounted on the motor or on a spider, alongside city, road, and track chainrings. The discounts from the event apply throughout November. The choice of an electric bike chainring starts with the motor, its brand, and then its generation; followed by the chain line and the number of teeth.
When the motor is at the crankset, the chainring rests on its axle, and each manufacturer has its interface: Bosch, Shimano Steps, Yamaha, Brose, TQ or Fazua. With Bosch, it changes from one generation to another, hence the mentions Gen3 or Gen4 in the designations. Next comes the chainline, in millimetres: it aligns the chainring with the cassette and rises on the bike's dropout or the original chainring, 46.5 mm for the SM-CRE50 from Shimano, 55 mm for many electric MTB chainrings.
There are two mounting styles. The direct mount chainring, made from a single piece, attaches to the motor. The direct mount spider, it, then receives a standard chainring with four bolts and a 104 mm bolt circle diameter, which can be replaced alone when its teeth are worn.
A smaller chainring makes it easier to start with a load and tackle hills; a larger one allows for pedalling without spinning out as the bike approaches its assisted speed. This is fixed at 25 km/h, with a maximum 250 W motor, regardless of the chainring: any device that raises this limit is prohibited under Article L317-5 of the Highway Code. For urban use, the original tooth count often remains the best choice.
A discount on a chainring is only valid if it fits your motor: the interface and generation take precedence over price. With the same interface, check the tooth count, chainline or offset, and the speeds: 9 to 11 or 12 speeds require different tooth profiles. Then look at the material, lighter 7075 aluminium or more durable steel, and what's included: bolts, spacer, chain guard. The SM-CRE50 from Shimano thus comes without protection, with a simple or double guard: each version has its own price, and its strikethrough price, if it exists, is closer to its displayed price.
The listing also includes road, gravel, track, and MTB chainrings, better organised in the road chainrings in Black Friday and MTB chainrings in Black Friday; the chainrings in the operation cover all practices. A new chainring requires a chain in good condition: check out the electric bike chains in Black Friday. Throughout the year, city bike chainrings explain fittings and bolt circles, and the urban transmission in Black Friday brings together the rest. Discontinued series end up in clearance, and the latest references enter into new arrivals.
E*Thirteen offers an e*spec spider in direct mount that accepts any standard 104 mm chainring, for Bosch Gen4, Fazua Ride 60, Shimano EP8 or TQ HPR50 motors: the worn chainring can be replaced without having to buy a new set.
Shimano targets the SM-CRE50 for Steps E5000 motors on city and touring bikes: 38 or 44 teeth, 9 to 11 speeds, compatible with a chain guard.
Stronglight offers its Direct Mount chainrings in 7075 aluminium for Bosch third and fourth generation motors, with the generation specified in the name.
Sram provides T-Type Eagle chainrings in direct mount for Shimano and Brose motors, to be paired with its T-Type transmission.
Those on this page are. The Black Friday gets its name from the Friday after Thanksgiving, but Vélo-Store extends its discounts on chainrings, just like the rest of the operation, throughout November.
Check the motor model, listed on its casing or in the bike's documentation, then the chainline indicated by the bike manufacturer. A chainring only fits the interface and generation it was designed for.
Steel lasts longer against wear, which is important under a motor's torque; 7075 aluminium lightens the bike but wears out faster. For an everyday-used electric bike, steel often makes sense.
Yes, it keeps the bottom of your trousers away from the teeth and grease. Its size depends on the chainring it surrounds; some electric bike chainrings are sold with their protection.
Compare the same model for the same interface, with the same number of teeth, the same chainline and the same accessories. A chainring from a different motor generation will not fit, regardless of the offer.
